Yogi at Crufts 2010

In the month ahead of Crufts 2020 we are going to look back at the last decade of Crufts Best in Show winners.

Ten years ago we saw one of the most successful dogs UK show rings have ever seen round out his excpetional career with the biggest win of them all.

2010 Sh Ch/Aust Ch Hungargunn Bear It’n Mind

Breed: Hungarian Vizsla
Group: Gundog
Owners: Mrs N and Mrs K Craggs and Armstrong

Before winning Crufts Best in Show in 2010 Yogi’s UK show careers had racked up some big numbers:

  • Breed record 64 CCs
  • 46 Gundog group wins
  • 13 Reserve Bests in Show
  • Top Dog 2006 and 2007

And not least at the time a UK all-time record 18 all-breed Bests in Show

UK all-time record
18 all-breed Bests in Show

This was not Yogi’s only experience of the Crufts Arena having won the Gundog group a year earlier in 2009. All the expectation that year was building to see him atop the Best in Show podium only for him to be freaked by a camera. A year later that experience with his handler John Thirlwell paid off to take him to the pinacle of dog sport.

The Reserve Best in Show to him under judge Valerie Foss was Ch Rus/Slo/Eur Filisite Brash Celebration the Scottish Terrier.

Sadly less than 3 years after his biggest win Yogi died leaving an incerible legacy of offspring as one of the most prolific stud dogs. Hear what some off those closest to him and the judges who awarded his thought here …
