‘Lucy’s Law’ legislation to clamp down on puppy farms
The Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has recently announced that new legislation to end third party puppy sales, known as ‘Lucy’s Law’, is to become law in April 2020.
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary said: “For many years the Kennel Club has called for an end to the sale of puppies in pet shops and by other third party retailers and this is the next vital step forward to tackling the puppy farming industry.
“Puppy farmers often use such outlets to sell their puppies to members of the public who are often unaware of the horrific welfare conditions that they, and many other dogs, have been subjected to.
“We hope that by having this policy in place it means that, as well as improving welfare conditions for puppies, it will also encourage puppy buyers to research responsible breeders, such as a Kennel Club Assured Breeder, in order to find a happy and healthy puppy.”
Here are just some of the campaigners’ reactions to the passing of the new legislation.
